CATHERINE IMHOF – CARDINAL

'Catherine Imhof-Cardinal is a Swiss painter born in France who has lived near Aberdeen, Scotland for over 40 years. Although she trained as a sculptor at the École des Beaux Arts in Aix-en-Provence she decided to dedicate herself to painting.

Her strengths lie in her treatment and combination of colours; over the years she has moved away from the explicitly figurative to a unique style that combines traces of figurative but with the emphasis on colour and composition. Her approach to composition is without preconception; each work gradually emerges from a series of lines thrown onto the sheet, the subject and composition suggesting themselves through the work process.

From the comments people make it is clear that her works have a strong emotional impact but without being overpowering, leaving the viewer free to experience what speaks to them.
